Katalin´s Key Take On What Makes a Good Thanksgiving Pie
A good Thanksgiving pie is a perfect blend of rich flavors, flaky crust, and seasonal ingredients that come together to create an unforgettable dessert. The classic choices often include pumpkin, pecan, and apple pies, my personal favorite is this pumpkin custard pie. The ingredients are essential, with high-quality butter for a tender, flaky crust and fresh fruit or rich fillings that make each bite a taste of Fall.
Traditionally, these pies are served as the grand finale to a Thanksgiving feast, often accompanied by whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The aromas that fill the kitchen as the pies bake, the spicy sweetness of cinnamon, the buttery scent of crust, and the rich depth of cooked fruit or nuts are totally irresistible!
When it comes to baking tips, one of the most common challenges is preventing a soggy bottom crust. I wrote an entire article about how to avoid soggy pies and how to blind bake pie crust! To avoid this, you can pre-bake the crust before adding the filling. Another trick is to brush the crust with an egg wash that keeps moisture at bay. Additionally, make sure your filling is thick enough before adding it to the pie shell, as too thin a filling can lead to sogginess.
