You go to work with the same people day in and day out so you are probably pretty comfortable around them. So comfortable, that you may forget what is okay to say in an office and what is better kept to yourself. Uttering certain phrases when at work may take you from office hero to workplace zero (like when you get fired for the inappropriate things you say). Avoid saying these 12 things when in an office, unless you would like an immediate trip to the HR office.

“Yes, Yes, Yes”
We know you probably want to do a good job at work but that doesn’t mean you should say yes to everything. Agreeing to do anything that is asked of you will just leave you struggling to find time to do it all. Plus, it will allow your co-workers to walk all over you. They will quickly be asking you to do their jobs all the time. Don’t say yes to anything that isn’t part of your job or something you actually have time to complete.
“Are You Single”
Dating people you work with is always a terrible idea. Some companies even have rules against dating coworkers. Asking someone you work with if they are single is just all-around bad. Have you ever heard of a time when dating a co-worker worked out for the best? Probably not. So never ask if someone is single. It’s just not applicable to your work.
“I’m Leaving Early”
Never tell people you are leaving early. Just sneak out! If you announce your departure, people may ask you do to extra work, they may ask where you are going, or, at the very least, they will just get mad that you get to leave, and they don’t. Take our advice and just secretly go out the back door.
“We’ve ALWAYS Done This”
Sure, there are probably things that have always been done the same way. But things change! Learning to go with the flow and try new procedures is necessary. If someone asks you to try something a new way, don’t argue. Just do it.
“I was SOOO Drunk”
Talking about how wasted you were last night is a terrible idea. Do not tell the people you work with about your weekend shenanigans. They will not be impressed by how much alcohol you can consume and they will likely lose all respect for you.
“Meet Me In The Bathroom”
Why would you ever say this at work? Nothing good ever happens when people meet in the bathroom. No matter the context of this sentence, it should never be uttered at work. The scenario will not end well, no matter how it plays out.
“I Hate The Boss”
A whole lot of people hate their boss. It is not unusual to dislike the person who orders you around. However, keep those feelings to yourself. You never know who may snitch and tell the boss about your true feelings. The boss has eyes and ears everywhere, after all!
“You Look Sexy Today”
No matter how hot your co-worker may be, you should never, ever comment on someone's looks while at work. This is workplace harassment, plain and simple. Even if you meant the comment to be a compliment, it is likely still inappropriate. It may be the sexiest outfit you have ever seen, but keep those thoughts inside your head.
“I Broke It”
Breaking things at work is typically frowned upon. If you do break something, it may come out of your paycheck. So, first, try not to break anything. Second, consider the consequences before you tell everyone that you are at fault. This may be a morally grey area, but we won’t tell…shhh.
“You Look Tired”
Once again, commenting on other people’s appearance is not a good idea. If someone is looking particularly tired, don’t mention their fatigued look. You would essentially be telling them that they look like crap. That’s not nice! It may lead you down to HR…again.
“I Heard He Slept With…”
Never talk about sexual relationships at work. Even if someone in the office is known to be frisky, stay out of it! Do not spread rumors, encourage lies, or get in the middle of office scandals. Being part of the gossip is not good!
“When I Get a New Job….”
Mentioning that you want a new job is not a smart thing to do. It may even cause you to get fired right away. Hey, if you don’t want to be there, maybe the boss will let you go early. Or permanently.
