We used to love these 17 foods. They were some of our favorite things to eat! But now, these foods just taste boring. They have lost their flavor and we aren't exactly sure why. Maybe you can tell us why these foods were delicious in the past and now make us want to throw them in the garbage. We really want to know what happened to these foods!

Pad thai
This Thai dish came with a questionable aroma, but the second you took a bite, the taste and quality overpowered everything, and you felt like you were eating in heaven.
But now, whenever you try this dish, it just doesn’t taste the same anymore. This is probably because the dish requires an intricate balance between the fish sauce and tamarind, and it’s incredibly hard to nail down without your grandma assisting.
Moussaka
This loaded dish is arguably better than other casseroles (for some), and it’s all due to its thick, rich sauce and a meat filling that’s so generous that it falls off the plate every time you jab it with a fork.
And that’s made it a bit of a bummer because restaurants have gotten incredibly selfish. But that’s not the only reason; Moussaka is eaten in various countries, so it’s just lost its original taste through years of alterations and cultural incorporations.
Paella
If you’ve eaten original paella, you know the recipe just isn’t the same anymore. While we can appreciate alterations over the years, it’s not always a good idea to completely transform a recipe.
Paella now includes chorizo, which is delicious on its own, but it completely alters the taste. Different adaptations spanning across the world have also given this dish a variety of flavors, so it’s no longer a one-way street for taste buds.
Biryani
Okay, we’ve got to appreciate the varieties of biryani that completely swoon us and make us feel like we’re giddy. But many desis complain the flavor just isn’t authentic anymore, and it has lost its homey essence.
This might be due to the numerous varieties that have taken over biryani sellers. Some recipes use potatoes; some don’t. Some use kewra essence, while others ditch it and use a roundup biryani essence instead. It just doesn’t taste the same.
Caesar salad
Even thinking about Caesar salad losing its touch is absurd because it’s literally one of the easiest dishes to make, and it doesn’t even have that many ingredients. But over the years, it’s just lost the flavor we all loved.
Honestly, we’re to blame for it, too. Caesar salads used to be made with natural dressings, but now restaurateurs toss bottled condiments and dressings, which aren’t only lost on the flavor but can be very unhealthy too.
Tiramisu
This Italian dessert is easily one of the best in the world. The creamy texture, coupled with the light crunchiness of ladyfinger biscuits, is just *chef’s kiss**. But we have to admit with a heavy heart that it’s just not worth it anymore.
The reason? We replaced the one thing that makes it such a classic dish. The dish got its oomph from the biscuits, but in an attempt to create more decadent desserts, we’ve changed cookies, and it just completely ruined the food.
Chicken parmesan
Fusion cuisines are a hit-and-miss. But chicken parmesan might be one of the few dishes that became popular and deserves it. The delicious breaded chicken cutlets combined with an amazing marinara sauce just make it a great dish.
But people managed to ruin it somehow. The breading is often too thick, and the chicken easily dries out, so it’s just a bad experience to eat. It’s also changed recipes, and the new versions don’t taste like your nonna’s.
Shepherd’s pie
Many joke that British food isn’t tasty. But some dishes prove that’s not the case like this scrumptious dish. You can’t go wrong with a shepherd’s pie. Or at least that’s what we thought, right?
Original shepherd’s pie recipes included meat, certain veggies, and mashed potatoes. Now, various alterations include vegetables like peas, which aren’t the best texture-wise. Chefs also can’t balance the consistency, which ruins the taste.
Fish and chips
We’re still a little stumped on how this dish could take such a big hit, especially since it’s basically the staple food of the UK. But turns out it’s incredibly hard to nail down something as simple as fish and chips.
It’s because, over the years, chefs have switched to various oils that have a distinct taste. It’s also because we ate simpler fish and chips, and the recent variations include a buttload of spices. But that is actually a good thing for spice lovers.
Beef stroganoff
We’ve got to hand it to the Russians because they managed to make an amazing dish featuring heaps of mustard. After all, the babushkas do have a talent for accomplishing the impossible.
But over the years, beef stroganoff incorporated ingredients that may seem like a small change but drastically affected the taste. Some even make a shortcut recipe by using cream of mushroom soup, which doesn’t go down well in comparison.
Risotto
Ugh, the Italians are remarkably talented when it comes to food, so we already know anything they make will turn out amazing. And eating a home-cooked risotto is an experience that’s simply unparalleled.
However, risotto doesn’t taste like it used to because the original recipe takes a laborious time to nail down. The newer versions? Throw it in a rice cooker, and you’ve got a speedy dish, but one that has a messed up texture.
Chicken adobo
The Philippines is getting quite popular thanks to its food, and it’s not like the country doesn’t deserve it. Chicken adobo is arguably one of the best dishes the gorgeous country has to offer.
But, recent recipes use ingredients like coconut milk, which do taste good, but they don’t match the authenticity. The dish, as tangy and delicious as it is, also doesn’t use vinegar, which modern recipes use, and that can be a turnoff.
Pulled Pork
Pulled pork used to spend hours upon hours in a smoker, getting the meat to be tender and flavorful. The smoked wood flavor was in every single bite and it seriously made us swoon.
These days, chefs make pulled pork in the oven or even in the crockpot, no smoking needed. Then the meat is smothered in overly sweet barbecue sauce covering up any flavor the meat may have had. We want that classic smoked pork back! Nothing will ever be the same.
Pizza
Pizza is traditionally made in a wood-fired oven and cooked at extremely hot temperatures. The dough is cooked quickly, the bottom of the pizza gets a nice char and the cheese is beautifully melted. Now THAT is a pizza.
Now pizza is typically made in a regular oven that is just turned up on high heat. Gone is the wood smoke, gone is the 900 degree cooking temperature and all that is left is a bland, boring pizza. You may as well just buy a grocery store pizza rather than spend money on the restaurant stuff. These days, the quality is pretty much the same.
Tacos
Tacos used to be bursting with exciting flavors. They were spicy and sweet, crunchy and full of delicious toppings and sauces. Now, you go to a restaurant and order a taco and you will likely get a stale shell with bland meat and watery lettuce.
The quality of tacos has diminished since the food became more of a fast food and less of an authentic dish. You will have to travel to Mexico if you want a real taco these days.
Ramen Bowls
Ramen bowls became quite popular, quite quickly. Everyone was dying to try the spicy, bold soup that was full of noodles, veggies, meats, and exotic flavors.
Now, ramen bowls typically taste like bland beef broth with some scallions thrown in. Where did all the exciting add-ins go?! We want them back!
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Bakery chocolate chip cookies used to be irresistible! Now we buy cookies only to find that they taste like sugar and not much else. The problem? Many bakeries now use cheaper ingredients like imitation vanilla, low-quality butter, and fake chocolate. All those bad ingredients add up to bad cookies.
Luckily, you can use this flawless chocolate chip cookie recipe and just make your own.
