Origin Story
Why Spatula? Hands down, it is the most-used item in my kitchen.
Why Desserts? In my view, dessert is the most important part of a meal, the grand finale that can make or break an entire meal experience.
Spatula Desserts started about 10 years ago as a creative escape. After long days at the office, baking was the one place I could get completely lost. Somewhere along the way, I stopped following other people's recipes and started developing my own, disappearing into my own little creative bubble for hours at a time.
I started sharing those recipes on Instagram with no photography knowledge and no idea how to run a website. All I wanted was to bake.
Then, in 2020, when the pandemic cut my corporate work hours, and I suddenly had something I'd never really had before: time. Time to take my baking education seriously, to test and retest recipes until they actually worked, and to build the resource I'd always wanted to exist: a place where home bakers could find reliable baking recipes written in a way that made them genuinely achievable.
It started as a passion project and quickly became something bigger. Readers found me, trusted me, and kept coming back. Today, Spatula Desserts is a full-time operation built around one simple belief: you don't need to go to pastry school to bake beautiful and truly delicious desserts from scratch.
For example, you can learn how to make this insanely delicious Ferrero Rocher Paris-Brest, one of my signature recipes. One of my readers completed the class with literally zero baking experience. I truly admire her bravery, and it turned out perfect.

Mission
My mission is to make professional baking techniques accessible to every home baker. Every recipe on this site is designed to teach you something you can take with you and apply to any future bake.
And honestly, nothing beats knowing that a recipe I developed in my own kitchen has found its way to someone thousands of miles away and brought them a little joy. Every time I read one of your comments, it reminds me exactly why I do this.
Whether you're after the best brown butter chocolate chip cookies or tackling something truly unique, like a Japanese cheesecake, every recipe gets the same care and detail. No matter where you are in your baking journey, you'll find something here that's exactly right for you.
Why should you trust Spatula Desserts?
In a world where food content is increasingly AI-generated, outsourced, and untested, I do things differently. I personally develop, test, and bake every published recipe in my kitchen. If it didn't work, it doesn't get published. That's a promise I've kept since day one.
But don't take my word for it. Here's what readers say:
"I tried your eclair recipe first, and this was next on the list. I've learned more from reading your recipes than from the pastry class I attended earlier this year. Thank you so much!" Karoline on my Cream puffs recipe
"Let me start by saying, I'm a retired professional chef, and I have been making cheesecakes of all kinds for many, many years. It was hands down the best cheesecake I've ever made. Absolute perfection." Francesca Ventimiglio on my Apple crumble cheesecake
"This is the best muffin recipe I’ve ever made, and I make muffins twice a week! If you follow the instructions, they turn out like an angel food texture- light, airy, and delicious." Judy on my Strawberry muffins
"This is truly the best moist chocolate sponge cake recipe; you are no joke! Chocolate and cocoa base sponges tend to dry out, not this one!" Melissa on my chocolate sponge cake
What you will find on Spatula Desserts
- Foolproof recipes that work — if you follow the recipe
- Professional baking tips translated for the home kitchen
- Complex flavor over excessive sweetness
- Useful information about the ingredients and tools you need
- Dessert decoration ideas that look impressive and are genuinely achievable
With 400+ dessert recipes, Spatula Desserts is more than a recipe archive. You'll find in-depth baking basics that explain the why behind the technique, ingredient substitution guides for when you're missing something, and recipe roundups to help you find exactly what you need for any occasion. Every recipe includes step-by-step photos, and most of them also have video tutorials so you can see what each stage should look like.
And if you want to go further, I also offer a limited number of live online baking classes. These are small-group sessions where you bake with me in real time and can ask questions as you go.
What you won't find on Spatula Desserts
- Boxed cake mixes, because everything is made from scratch, and I'll show you exactly how
- Diet recipes to fit a trend, because if a recipe happens to be gluten-free or eggless, that's a happy coincidence, not the goal
- Sugar overload over real flavor, because every dessert here is built around complexity, not just sweetness
- Bland desserts, because taste is something I refuse to compromise on
The Team
Well… It's mostly me, myself, and I.... I'm Katalin Nagy. The recipe developer, food writer, and the person who samples every single test batch. My husband, Balazs, handles the photography and video production, which means he also eats every single test batch.
On my author page, you can read more about my background and baking credentials.
Outside of Spatula Desserts, we also love traveling together, and wherever we go, food is always at the center.
