Because when Taylor says “just say yeast”… we listen.
A Celebration in Every Slice
Sourdough has experienced a significant resurgence in recent years, with home bakers everywhere cultivating starters and refining their crust. Funfetti Sourdough adds a playful twist to the trend by mixing in rainbow sprinkles that melt slightly as the loaf bakes. It creates pops of color and a subtle hint of sweetness throughout.
Whether sliced and toasted with butter, topped with frosting for an over-the-top treat, or admired on your counter, this bread is part nostalgia, part innovation, and all celebration.

Funfetti® Sourdough Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
150g active sourdough starter
335g water, 90° F
500g Pillsbury Best™ Bread Flour
7g salt
1 packet Funfetti® Celebrations Cake Mix Decorative Sprinkles (Using the sprinkles only)
Optional: Pillsbury™ Creamy Supreme® Vanilla Frosting, for serving
Directions:
In a large bowl, mix the starter and water together until the starter has dissolved. Mix in flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms. Cover and let rest for 1 hour.
After 1 hour, perform 3-4 stretches and folds every 30 minutes. During the last two stretches and folds, add half of the sprinkles.
After the stretch and folds, let the dough rest until it is light and airy as well as has grown visibly in size. This may take 4-8 hours.
Remove the dough from the bowl and stretch it into a square. Pour a portion of the remaining sprinkles over the dough and fold the sides into the center, adding more sprinkles at a time. Gently roll into a batard and pinch edges to seal. Transfer to a floured proofing basket with the seal facing up. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 450° F with a Dutch oven or bread loaf baker for 1 hour.
Remove dough from the basket and invert onto parchment paper. Score bread. Carefully transfer into a hot Dutch oven and cover with the lid.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, then remove the lid and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the desired color is achieved.
Let rest for at least one hour before slicing.
Serve it as it is or with vanilla frosting and additional sprinkles.
Between Taylor Swift’s “Eras” of sourdough baking and Funfetti’s instant rise to the occasion, this mashup is already proving to be one of 2025’s most joyful food moments.
Because, as Taylor herself might say: It’s a loaf story, baby… just say yeast.
