Some condiments spark more debate than pineapple on pizza. You either swear by them or can’t stand the sight—or smell—of them. I’ve definitely raised an eyebrow at a few of these while watching friends happily drizzle them over their food. It’s funny how something that ruins a dish for one person is a must-have for someone else. These toppings have a way of dividing dinner tables, friend groups, and maybe even families. Let’s take a look at the most controversial condiments out there and see which side you’re on.

Piccalilli

Piccalilli is a strange condiment that sounds good, but it is actually pretty bad. The mix is made with tomatoes, cabbage, salt, turmeric, green peppers, brown sugar, and allspice. While the ingredients on their own are yummy, put them together and YUCK! The mix not only looks disgusting, but it tastes pretty bad, too.
Miracle Whip

Miracle Whip is one of the most popular condiments out there, but we aren’t sure why. It is totally disgusting! Miracle Whip is made with tons and tons of chemicals, preservatives, and additives. It is far from “natural”. If you like eating chemicals, then go ahead and use that Miracle Whip!
Cocktail Sauce

Cocktail sauce is like tangy, fermenting ketchup. Its weird flavor doesn’t go well with much. Cocktail sauce is such a strange condiment, and we aren’t sure why it is still around. Let’s all agree never to eat it again.
Yellow Mustard

Is that yellow squirt bottle mustard even real mustard? We are pretty sure it is mostly food coloring. So stop squirting pure yellow goo on your foods. You are probably filling your stomach with terrible chemicals that don’t even taste good.
Fish Sauce

Fish sauce is meant to be used in cooking, but occasionally, people just drizzle it over their foods. Ew! Why would you want to add fish flavor to anything?! You are definitely gross if you pour fish sauce on top of anything.
Sweet and Sour Sauce

Sweet and sour sauce must have nothing natural in it. The goopy, sticky sauce is a bright orange color, and we don’t know why. Yes, it does have a very sweet and sour taste, but you could probably get that same flavor with a simple lemon and some sugar. Skip the sweet and sour sauce and actually taste the real flavors in your food.
Vegemite

Oh, Australia, why are you eating this terrible stuff?! Vegemite is such an odd condiment that many people are seriously obsessed with it. Not us! We actually hate the salty, savory paste, and we will never spread it on our bread! Especially after learning that the slushy yeast that is used to make vegemite is also used to feed cattle. We are not cows. We do not want vegemite.
Hair Soy Sauce

Soy sauce is actually made from human hair. Back in World War 2, someone discovered that the amino acids present in soy sauce are also present in human hair. So why not gather some hair and then make some sauce? We are serious when we say this may just be one of the grossest condiments out there. We love soy sauce, but not when it is made from hair.
Jeotgal

Jeotgal is a Korean condiment that is used to top almost everything. It is a mushy, fermented fish. Jeotgal can actually be made from fish, shrimp, crab, or oysters. Any type of fermented seafood will do to make this condiment! Jeotgal is used to make anything and everything taste fishy. But not all foods should be fishy. So, let’s ditch this condiment once and for all.
Smorgaskaviar

This odd condiment is popular in Scandinavia and almost nowhere else in the world. That is probably because the fish roe and mayonnaise mix is not something that everyone can handle. This pink paste is squeezed onto lots of different dishes to add a salty creaminess to any food. We aren't so sure about this condiment, mainly due to the weird, toothpaste-like tube that it comes in. No, thank you!
Tkemali

Tkemali is actually Georgia's national condiment. It may look similar to ketchup, but it is actually made from sour Georgian plums. The pungent tart sauce is used on meats and stews but definitely takes a while to get used to. The taste is pretty overpowering!
Banana Ketchup

Banana ketchup is pretty popular in the Phillippines, but the rest of the world might find this condiment really strange. Banana ketchup was invented during World War II when there was a big tomato storage. Scientists decided to make ketchup out of bananas rather than tomatoes. The condiment is still popular and used to top everything from French fries to spaghetti- so weird!
