KFC is celebrating this year’s National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day with a weekend promotion that keeps the fryers running while others close. The chain is giving away free Chicken Sandwiches and opening a one-day-only pop-up restaurant in New York City on Sunday.
The promotion, announced Nov. 3 by KFC U.S., runs nationwide from Nov. 7 to Nov. 9. KFC Rewards members can claim a free Classic or Spicy Chicken Sandwich when ordering through the KFC app or KFC.com during the promotion period.
In a statement, KFC U.S. Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Cash said the chain wanted to go big nationwide while others close for the day. “National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day falling on a Sunday felt like the perfect moment for KFC to show up big,” Cash said. “While others close up shop, we’re giving fans more to love with our bigger, better Classic Chicken Sandwich made with our signature, craveable KFC taste, and available seven days a week — because cravings don’t do days off.”
How to claim a free KFC chicken sandwich

Customers must have a KFC Rewards account and redeem the offer through the app or the website by placing a $1 minimum order. Taxes, tips, and fees still apply, and the promotion is limited to one per account.
The promotion is valid at participating U.S. locations while supplies last and cannot be combined with other discounts. Fans can choose between the Classic Chicken Sandwich, made with an Extra Crispy chicken breast filet, pickles, and the Colonel’s real mayo on a toasted brioche bun, or the Spicy version with spicy mayo.
KFC said the weekend event highlights its promise to stay open seven days a week and to give fans access to their favorites even when some other chains are closed on Sundays.
‘Sundays By KFC’ pop-up opens in New York City

The biggest part of the celebration takes place in New York City, where KFC will host “Sundays By KFC,” a one-day-only sit-down pop-up restaurant on Sunday, Nov. 9, at its 14th Street location.
The restaurant will serve only one item, KFC’s Classic Chicken Sandwich, in an elevated dining setting that turns “Sunday Funday into Sunday Done the Right Way,” according to the company. Guests can pair their sandwiches with a handcrafted Dirty Soda made with vanilla cream swirl, created exclusively for the event.
Reservations are open through the “Sundays By KFC” website and close at 12 a.m. EST on Nov. 9. Each reservation covers one guest and a 30-minute seating. Walk-ins will not be accepted, and those more than 10 minutes late risk cancellation. Attendees must be 18 or older to reserve a free chicken sandwich. Reservations are available between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET, according to the company.
‘Size Matters Tour’ hits multiple U.S. cities
To build momentum before the holiday weekend, KFC launched a 13-stop Size Matters Tour, offering free sandwiches at college campuses and events across the country. The tour began in Atlanta on Nov. 6 and continues through December with stops in Los Angeles, Austin, Louisville, and other major spots. Visitors can sample both Classic and Spicy sandwiches, pick up limited merchandise, and see what the brand calls the “size difference” between its sandwich and others.
The tour includes college and city stops, such as:
- Georgia Tech – Atlanta, GA (Nov. 6)
- Morehouse College – Atlanta, GA (Nov. 7)
- University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, NC (Nov. 11)
- North Carolina A&T – Greensboro, NC (Nov. 12)
- University of Louisville – Louisville, KY (Nov. 14)
- Wake Forest University – Winston-Salem, NC (Nov. 15)
- Austin, TX Events (Bingo Loco Dec. 6 and University of Texas Dec. 8)
Each stop features free sandwich samples and KFC giveaways while supplies last. “Whether fans catch the Size Matters Tour, snag a seat at ‘Sundays by KFC,’ or grab a sandwich at their local KFC, one thing’s for sure — size matters, and KFC’s got the proof”, the company said in its announcement.
The limited-time deal also highlights KFC's recent focus on its Chicken Sandwich. Since launching the updated version in 2021, the chain has promoted it as one of its core menu staples, made with a thicker chicken breast filet and extra crunch. With National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day falling on a Sunday, KFC is using the moment to keep its sandwich in the spotlight all weekend.
So if you’ve been craving a crispy chicken sandwich, this weekend’s your chance. Whether you grab one through the app or snag a seat at the pop-up, it’s a good excuse to skip cooking and let KFC treat you for free!
