Wild animals spend most of their lives searching for food and hiding from predators. In forests and fields, that means hours of foraging for berries, seeds, or other edibles. But some animals have found a shortcut. Instead of searching through the woods, they wander into towns, step into the stores, and grab whatever catches their eye. Videos posted online have captured these funny moments, showing how easily wildlife can adapt to human food when they get a chance.
Bear steals his favorite candy bar
As shown in a video, a brown bear turned into a regular at a neighborhood store. Security cameras caught the animal walking in, a chocolate bar, and then heading out as calmly as if it belonged there. The visits went on for weeks, the shop owner said, and while the bear never caused any harm, it left with its favorite snacks almost every time.
According to the shop owner, the thefts continued almost daily for a month. Despite calls to the police, the bear always disappeared back into the forest before authorities arrived. Even attempts to lock the doors failed, as the animal returned the next day with the same routine.
Bears are driven by a great variety of foods. In the wild, they consume a variety of foods, including berries, roots, insects, and fish; however, they often prefer food that is abundant and readily available, as seen in the video.
Incidents like this are not rare in countries such as the United States and Canada. Wildlife officials regularly warn communities to secure trash bins and store food in locked areas. Once a bear discovers that shops or campsites offer easy access to food, it may return repeatedly.
A cat attempts to shoplift cat food
Another video shows a domestic cat in a minimart trying to steal a bag of cat food from a shelf. After struggling to pull it down with its paws, the cat finally manages to grip the bag in its mouth and runs away.
Cats are natural hunters and are adaptive to the environment they live in, whether it’s a house or outdoors. Stray cats, in particular, find easy access to food or prey on animals when they get a chance.
Store owners in areas with many strays often watch them roam around, looking for food. Some may meow as a sign to ask for food, while others may get in and grab whatever they find to fill their tummies.
Seagull runs away with chips
A clip from a Tesco store in the United Kingdom shows a seagull walking through the automatic doors, seizing a bag of crisps, and escaping before anyone intervenes.
Seagulls are well known for scavenging in urban areas. Originally coastal feeders, they now thrive in cities where food waste is abundant. They mainly thrive on fish, insects, and even human food, taking every opportunity to grab something to eat.
The bird’s behavior highlights the adaptability of seabirds. Gulls not only steal food but also closely observe humans, learning when to strike by watching, as shown in the video.
How a raccoon managed to steal a pack of Twizzlers
One video features a raccoon slipping through a hole in a shop counter at an airport. It spots a pack of Twizzlers candy, but struggles to grab it with both hands. It drops the candy once, then successfully drags it back through the hole in the mouth.
Raccoons are dexterous mammals with paws that function almost like hands. They are notorious for raiding garbage bins for food. Due to their consistent habit of eating human food, they are also known as “trash pandas”. The raccoon’s persistence in the video shows its wild behavior, where it tries its best to access hidden food.
Wildlife authorities often warn the public against feeding raccoons, as they may become dependent on humans as a regular food source.
Squirrel runs off with the chocolate
In another clip, a squirrel enters a store, grabs a chocolate bar, and escapes quickly. The squirrel, due to its speed, is often difficult to catch, which is why it manages to steal and escape quickly.
Squirrels normally forage for nuts, seeds, and fruits, storing them for months when their food is scarce, especially during early spring. When many of their usual food sources, such as nuts, are unavailable during these months, they rely on other foods that are readily available to them.
Though chocolate is unhealthy for squirrels, the animal cannot distinguish it from natural foods. To them, it’s more than enough to grab what they can to fill their stomachs and get through the hard times.
A cat thief finds her permanent home
Perhaps the most surprising video involves a cat known for stealing sausages daily from a market. The store manager eventually starts leaving cat food near the entrance, hoping to feed it the right food. But the cat still steals sausages as well.
One day, the cat enters the store limping. The store owner decides to take it to a veterinarian for treatment. After recovery, the cat stays with the owner forever and enjoys unlimited sausages.
These clips may be amusing to watch, but they also demonstrate how quickly animals adapt when human food is within reach. Whether it’s a bear raiding a candy shelf or a stray cat sneaking sausages, each story is a reminder that wildlife is never far from our daily lives.
