Weddings are meant to be beautiful, unforgettable celebrations shared with the people you love most. Everything from the music to the flowers creates the atmosphere, but the food can make or break the day. Serving the wrong dishes can leave guests confused, uncomfortable, or even heading home early. Therefore, our advice is that if you’re planning a wedding, some foods are better left off the menu. And if you’re attending one, we hope for your sake these don’t show up at dinner.

Food Trucks

Food trucks are a pretty big fad right now, but that doesn’t mean they are acceptable at weddings. Making guests stand in line to order food at a truck window is not classy. Those who have food trucks cater their weddings will regret it in the future.
Pizza

Pizza might be delicious, but it isn’t on a wedding menu. It’s messy to eat, especially for guests dressed in formal wear, and no bride wants tomato sauce on her white dress. More importantly, pizza is a casual, everyday food that lacks the special feel a wedding meal should have. Your guests came to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime moment, not attend a Friday night hangout.
Potluck Foods

Asking guests to bring their own food to a wedding might seem charming or budget-friendly, but it often ends in chaos. Potluck-style weddings are nearly impossible to coordinate well, leading to duplicate dishes and a lack of variety. You could easily end up with five pasta salads and a dozen trays of the same cookies. It also puts unnecessary pressure on your guests, who should be there to celebrate, not worry about meal prep.
Fast Food

Everyone loves fast food but that doesn’t mean it should be served at a wedding. When fast food restaurants cater large events, you can guarantee that the food will be cold and unappetizing. Giving your guests plastic silverware to eat their food would also be frowned upon.
Soups

Soup is hard to eat. It can be pretty messy especially if your guests have been drinking. If you serve soup at your wedding, get ready to have guests with stains on their fancy clothes.
All Appetizers

Passes appetizers do not make a meal. Brides and grooms often try to save money and skip the sit-down meal. But people need to eat! You need more than just appetizers, especially when the wedding lasts several hours.
Chips and Dip

Eating chips and dip at a wedding while mingling with guests is almost impossible. This messy snack food should be kept at home as a snack, not served at a fancy event.
Grocery Store Cake

Wedding cakes are very expensive, and that is definitely true. It may seem like a good idea to just get a big grocery store cake and save a whole lot of cash, but your guests will notice the lack of quality and remember it for years to come.
Buffet Food

There is something nice about sitting down at a wedding and being served a nice meal. Buffet-style meals are not quite as enjoyable. You don’t want your guests to balance plates on their arms while they dangerously scoop hot foods over the elegant venue. Buffets are messy, inconvenient, and never quite as tasty.
Breakfast Foods

Unless you have a morning wedding, breakfast foods should never be served. Even if the bride and groom are obsessed with waffles or pancake lovers, they should save that preference for their home. Most people want a real, hearty dinner at the end of the day.
Raw Foods

Sushi and oysters may be pretty delicious, but serving raw foods at a wedding is dangerous. You never know how long the food will be left sitting out at dangerous temperatures, breeding bacteria in just a few hours. Raw food also naturally has a higher risk of causing foodborne illness. This is something that should never be part of a wedding!
Exotic Foods

Serving crazy, exotic dishes that are overly specialized is a bad idea. Your guests want to know what they are eating and find some comfort in the food. Serving all exotic foods also makes the bride and groom look quite snobby. Stick with the classics, and guests will be much happier!
Only Meat

Not everyone eats meat. Having vegetarian options at a wedding is essential. An all-meat event is sure to disappoint at least one of your guests. Variety is very important for every wedding menu.
Family Style Meals

Family-style meals may sound fun and charming, but they are not very practical for a wedding. Placing large dishes in the middle of the table ends up crowding everyone's space. Not everyone at the table may like the idea of sharing their food.
Too Much Garlic

Garlic is one of the best spices ever, but it is not always a friendly ingredient. Serving dishes heavy in garlic is sure to create some tension with guests later on. Garlic breath is a real thing! You don’t want everyone at your wedding to smell terrible.
Ice Cream Cake

A wedding cake should not be made of ice cream. It is next to impossible to stack an ice cream cake that doesn't completely fall apart. An ice cream cake in the summer is an especially bad idea. Imagine watching a wedding cake just completely melt in front of your eyes. The dessert meant for hundreds would just disappear. Such a shame!
